Greening Our Products

Green_Logos_ltst

Owens Corning is committed to making products that meet the needs of the green marketplace, improving energy efficiency in the built environment, conserving resources through recycling and innovating for low emissions. To help guide our product development efforts, we take into account many of the most widely respected industry guidelines and specifications for green and sustainable building

While the sheer number of these guidelines can be confusing, there are clear themes and commonalities that we look to in defining our green product attributes*:

  • Save energy or water
  • Are made with salvaged, recycled or agricultural waste
  • Conserve natural resources
    • by reducing material usage
    • through exceptional durability
    • with low maintenance requirements
  • Avoid toxic or other emissions (from end product and manufacturing process)
    • Contribute to a safe indoor environment
  • Can be reused or recycled at the end of life (cradle-to-cradle)

*Adapted from GreenSpec Guide to Residential Building Materials

Green Product Innovation and Testing

Our process starts with the use of eco-design principles and measures in the course of product development. Product Stewardship reviews provide confirmation of safety, performance and environmental standards for new and existing products. Tools such as life cycle analysis help us understand the impact of our operations in addition to those of the supply chain and end use of the product.

You don't have to take our word for it. You’ll find extensive third-party testing, certification or validation of our claims for many of the green attributes designed into our products. We believe that this rigor helps set objective standards for the industry and allows our customers and the consumer to evaluate product choices from an informed perspective.
